Preparations for Khatumo 3.0 in full steam as transitional period ends

Eighteen months have almost passed since the establishment of Khatumo State as the legitimate administration and voice of the people of Sool Sanaag Cayn Regions in Northeastern Somalia. The rotation system of the Presidential council is expected to come to an end as well after it served its intended purpose; balancing the wishes of the three main communities that make up the demographics of Khatumo region _Hawd, Nugaal and Baha-Nugaaleed. (fingers crossed i get this right).

Why hold another Khatumo meeting in Taleh: some would say and argue with the weak reasoning that “if Lasanod has not been liberated” or if there are internal squabbles back at home; i am less motivated this time around. Well, first of all, the answer is “Why not” another meeting in Taleh, in fact why not a third and fourth meetings in Taleh, or every two years or for this matter once every year. As we know, many Administrations do hold annual conventions which serve the purpose of sharing informing, consensus building, orientation and motivation and in our case _ building a permanent administration for Khatumo folks.

Another troubling weakness is the notion of Ethnocentrism or the idea that my community or subclan is always the correct one and therefore a blind support is warranted to my kinsmen. This fallacy has to be deleted. I understand that this may take a while since our Dervish community has never experienced such a sophisticated method of Governance based on power sharing and democratic values, in other words: thinking beyond the tribal allegiances.

As far as internal arguments are concerned in Darwiish land, new democracies are laden with debates and arguments. Disagreements are part of life_ in fact mature democracies legitimize their disagreements into constructs such as the “Opposition”or in Parliamentary Democracies, the ”Loyal Opposition’s job is to “disagree”. Leaders and volunteers of Khatumo State understand the magnitude of liberating and enlightening innocent tribal folks from predatory administrations. That is why criticisms, whether nuanced or verbalized or even blatant support to enemy administrations doesn’t weaken the Khatumo brand. Remember, a few days ago, when a bogus and self proclaimed Traditional elder from Sanaag Region brainwashed a few militia into a staged theatrical show of purporting to have switched sides, it emboldened the true Khatumites. Hundreds of thousands of SSC residents, young and old are watching and protecting their new found democracy in Khatumo land.

“I am betraying Khatumo because i disagreed with an individual in the leadership” or “My uncle is a _Frontman (Horgale) therefore I am”. Folks in main-street Khatumo have matured and do understand that just because two people disagree does not mean that one should be labelled “an enemy” and that _the enemy of your  enemy is not always your friend… Just ask Hagla-toosiye who mis-applied this concept as he once again contemplates to switch from Hargaisa to Mogadishu. Khatumo can truly withstand any challenge or disruption by a few who did not have true conviction in the first place.

Folks, the new brand of Khatumo as an entity has prevailed as it is the only leadership platform that binds and unites the people of SSC. The only administration that genuinely advocates on behalf of SSC region at the National, International and UN meetings. An administration that knows that the liberation of Lasanod and building good governance at the state level can be accomplished simultaneously.

This summer, get ready and get your travel itinerary with direct flights from Mogadishu to Taleh City. True Khatumo folks from around the world are expected to gather once again for another historic Conference.
